OPENING NIGHT

After much hard work.... sweat and tears.... we're opening Don Pasquale here in Dallas. The piece has posed many of the same challenges that I often find singing bel canto opera, namely, when to stop thinking about the "canto"and start thinking about the "parole". It's a delicious opera, though, with a delightful cast. A bonus to this rehearsal time here in Dallas has been the time I've spent in the "opera van" with my colleagues going to and from rehearsal. The day of the snow storm was particularly fun because we had to load ourselves into the back seat of the van in order for it to have enough traction :) Another was when a lithe beauty was on her daily jog and thought her space was being infringed upon so she very quickly and efficiently flipped us the "bird". Nothing like a little love to get you going before a run-through.
