Back from the mountain
Well, I made the decision to do it and I did. I dove head first into learning how to ski and.... IT WAS GREAT! As a matter of fact I'd like to think that I closed the mountain single handedly. The first day (beautiful weather... 10 foot base of snow) I mastered the bunny hill with my oldest along side me. We were given excellent instruction by Denis the ski guru and were taught to "feel" the mountain. I told him I'd be happy to "feel" the mountain as long as it wasn't with my face. I discovered that feeling the mountain was not all that different from feeling the road while riding a motorcycle. Many of the same concepts apply. Anyway, by the end of the day I was on to the blue square runs and ended with a fearsome shoot through the ditch of doom and a rocket like blast down the near vertical drop of a black diamond.
Day two, though, was like a scene from an action film. After coasting down run 1 with the oldest next to me we had a high speed chase on the ski lift which caused the generators to explode! The electricity went out and pandemonium reigned! What to do? No one could use credit cards! Only beer, wine, and cold sandwiches could be found! That's before the firetrucks arrived and the janitors caught fire!!! (That's what my kids like to say) If none of this makes sense then you get the basic idea.
After fleeing the ski resort and deciding the first day of this new decade was perhaps a little too exciting we resigned ourselves to the prospect that a third day of skiing may not be in the cards. It was a good thing that we did too because the ski resort was closed. That's right.... closed. We came. We saw. We conquered.
(a still life that represents this adventure will be added to the sight very soon).
